Swiss Supermarket Spar Starts Accepting Bitcoin Payments

Spar supermarket in Zug , Switzerland has implemented Bitcoin payments via the Lightning Network , becoming one of the first supermarkets in Switzerland to accept cryptocurrency payments directly at the counter.
The project, backed by BTC Mao and DFX Swiss , uses the OpenCryptoPay solution to facilitate Bitcoin transactions in everyday retail.

Switzerland is a crypto-friendly region in Europe, with many pioneering initiatives. In 2023, the city of Lugano will allow city fees to be paid in Bitcoin and Tether USDt, becoming one of the first cities in the world to do so.
According to BTCmap , there are currently 1,013 stores and businesses in Switzerland that accept Bitcoin payments .

The adoption of Bitcoin payments by Spar, a global food retail group with more than 13,900 stores in 48 countries, 14.7 million daily customers and 450,000 employees, could boost public confidence in cryptocurrencies.
