Michael Saylor Wants to Convince Microsoft to Invest in Bitcoin
Michael Saylor , President of MicroStrategy , will have 3 minutes to present to the Microsoft board of directors about investing in Bitcoin (BTC) .
He believes this could help stabilize Microsoft's stock and reduce risk.
During a November 19 X Spaces discussion hosted by VanEck, Saylor revealed that he agreed to give a short presentation at the request of an activist.
“They asked me to present to the board, and I said yes. I would prepare a three-minute presentation, as required,” Saylor shared.
Saylor had previously requested a private meeting with CEO Satya Nadella to discuss the matter, but the request was not accepted.
Microsoft to Vote on Bitcoin in December
In October, Microsoft announced that one of the voting items on December 10 would be to evaluate the possibility of investing in Bitcoin.
The proposal was pushed by the National Center for Public Policy Research (NCPPR) , which noted that MicroStrategy's stock has risen more than 300% this year, surpassing Microsoft, despite its much smaller business.
Saylor believes that not only Microsoft, but also large corporations like Apple , Google , and Meta should consider this issue, because they own huge amounts of cash but have not optimized shareholder value.
Why Microsoft Should Buy Bitcoin, According to Saylor
Saylor notes that currently, 98.5% of Microsoft's enterprise value depends on quarterly earnings, while only 1.5% is based on tangible assets.
“If half of Microsoft’s enterprise value was backed by a tangible asset like Bitcoin, the stock would be more stable and less risky,” Saylor argued.
Microsoft board of directors opposes
However, Microsoft's 12-member board of directors recommended a no vote, arguing that the company has evaluated a variety of investment assets, including Bitcoin.
Ethan Peck , deputy director of the NCPPR's Free Enterprise Project , said that if Microsoft does a review and decides not to invest, it could create a lot of strategic pressure.
Microsoft's board of directors includes representatives from major corporations such as Disney , Citigroup , Wells Fargo , and GSK . The vote will be a decisive step in whether Microsoft considers Bitcoin as a strategic investment.
