Pertsev expressed gratitude after EF donated legal support, allowing him to focus on preparing his appeal.
Pertsev left prison in early February.
Pertsev was released on bail in early February, marking a breakthrough in the legal battle over Tornado Cash. He was convicted of money laundering in the Netherlands in May 2024 and sentenced to five years and four months in prison.
Meanwhile, the Tornado Cash sanctions issued by the US Treasury Department in 2022 were revoked shortly after Donald Trump took office on January 20.
Previous support from the community
The Ethereum Foundation is not the first organization to offer financial support to Pertsev. In December 2024, Vitalik Buterin donated 50 ETH (about $170,000 at the time) to support the legal proceedings of Pertsev and Roman Storm, another Tornado Cash developer, who is scheduled to appear in court in the United States on April 14.

Pertsev expressed gratitude to Vitalik Buterin, Stefan George, and his supporters for helping with his legal defense. In January, investment firm Paradigm also donated $1.25 million to Roman Storm’s legal support.
