El Salvador continues to grow despite IMF pressure
El Salvador's Congress amended Bitcoin law in January 2025 to comply with a $1.4 billion loan agreement from the IMF, in a 55-2 vote .
Despite the law being repealed, the government continues to buy BTC on a daily basis . The IMF increased pressure on March 3 , demanding that El Salvador stop accumulating BTC and ban the issuance of bonds or crypto-securities tied to Bitcoin .
President Nayib Bukele responded, affirming that El Salvador will continue to buy BTC , calling the pressure from the IMF just “whining” .
“We have not stopped in the face of international pressure, and we will not stop now or in the future,” President Bukele affirmed.
